![]() The striking finding by Lellouche et al. , 1however, is that such common practice (tidal volumes of more than 10 ml/kg of PBW) was associated with prolonged mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic instability, higher incidence of renal failure, and prolonged stay in the intensive care unit among patients who underwent cardiac surgery, compared with low tidal volumes. Such findings are not really surprising and mirror clinical practice worldwide, where protective ventilation has been regarded as superfluous, because uninjured lungs shall be robust enough to overcome tidal volumes of that magnitude. Organ dysfunction was defined as mechanical ventilation exceeding 24 h (prolonged mechanical ventilation), use of vasopressors or inotropes for more than 48 h after surgery (hemodynamic instability), or increase in creatinine levels more than 50 μM after surgery compared with baseline values (renal failure), according to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.‡Authors found that low tidal volumes, i.e. , less than 10 ml/kg of PBW, have been used in only about 21% of 3,434 patients included in the study, whereas the vast majority received tidal volumes more than 10 ml/kg, or even more than 12 ml/kg of PBW. 1report on the results of a prospective observational trial that investigated the effects of low, traditional, and high tidal volumes (less than 10, 10–12, and more than 12 ml/kg of predicted body weight, respectively) delivered after admission into the intensive care unit on the development of organ dysfunction after cardiac surgery. Subsequently, says Purkiss, nickel prices will start rising, probably rapidly, and nickel pig iron production will restart, but only to fill Chinese stainless-steel demand, which will still be limited. The company predicts global nickel stocks will decline until a trigger point is reached, at which time restocking will take place. Munali will produce low-cost nickel concentrate at $9 200/t of nickel, while, in the long term, CNM expects lower-cost nickel sulphate production of $5 000/t. Purkiss says project economics were improved by changing the mining method, revising the metallurgical process and optimising the labour structure. Purkiss told delegates that financing of the restart was complete and, with the mine ramping up and the process plant being commissioned, first concentrates were expected in February and were on track to being transported to one of the nickel and copper smelters in the Southern Africa Development Community region in the first quarter of this year. Purkiss points to EV growth being an important factor in nickel’s demand-side development, noting a rapid increase in EV uptake, with financial services company Credit Suisse predicting EV growth to 3.1- million units by 2021 and 14.2-million units by 2025.ĬNM identified Munali, where operations stopped in November 2011, owing to low nickel prices and poor operational performance by the previous owners, as key to its consolidation of nickel prospects in Southern Africa. As a best practice, we recommend separating PLM and ERP solutions as their application structures are opposing. If your company tries to combine both tools into one product, you will most likely utilize fewer features and sacrifice the unique characteristics that make these tools successful. Let’s discuss a few frequently asked questions regarding product development software. If you’re comparing a PLM vs ERP, you probably have some questions. Costly implementations make it difficult to make changes when needed.Mismanagement of capabilities due to lack of functionality.Missing data creating inaccurate financial planning.Designers going outside the system to complete tasks due to user interface constraints.Costly errors not being communicated effectively.Lack of collaboration across departments. However, if your organization is considering an “add-on” PLM system within a larger ERP system, there are some risks to consider: Having a clear understanding of how each product evolves throughout the development cycle better aligns departments and increases performance. An integrated PLM solution provides a single source of truth for all product-related data, encouraging the collaboration and exchange of information among internal teams and stakeholders. Any disparity in product data or confusion in the way records are uploaded by team members can lead to miscommunication, errors, and lost revenue. Fine-tuned Collaboration Efforts : Clear communication across all departments is necessary for success. While a PLM supports internal development teams, it also leads to increased customer satisfaction by placing orders to factories faster and more accurately, also ensuring better fit for the final customer. Improved Customer Satisfaction : When errors are reduced, the process becomes much smoother for everyone involved in the product development lifecycle.Increased data accuracy allows businesses to reduce sampling and confidently place orders, helping to save money on additional materials and avoid supply shortages. Reduced Cost : Product data is moved effortlessly across departments without interference thus, the margin of error decreases and reports are far more accurate.Updating and transferring data is automated, so designers can better utilize their time creating new products rather than manually inputting product information. ![]() Efficiency Rates : PLM integration enhances productivity and provides access to real-time data, meaning you are always updated on the most current version of a product and can easily make changes as needed. Some of the main benefits of a PLM system include: Whether you’re sharing past or current product renderings, having an accurate forecast of materials will reduce errors, cut costs, and centralize data to establish an efficient workflow throughout each stage of the development lifecycle. Before you utilize each platform, let’s further discuss PLM vs ERP, how these systems differ, and their potential impact on your business.īenefits of PLM Integration The ability to share product data and sampling changes in real-time is vital for a successful development process. Integrating each tool is beneficial in its own way however, their capabilities are substantially different. While each solution compliments one another, PLM helps facilitate the complete development and design cycle, whereas ERP assists more directly with supply chain organization, including accounting, inventory, and logistics. Emerging companies may choose to streamline vital development processes with the help of product lifecycle management (PLM) coupled with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
